Building work is now underway on Jessup’s new extra care housing scheme for the elderly for Solihull Care Housing Association’s (SCHA) at Parkgate, Shirley.
The development consists of 33 one bedroom flats for rent and 18 two bedroom flats to be offered for sale on a shared ownership basis. Residents will also have the use of a range of excellent communal facilities including lounge and dining room, hairdressing salon, laundry, activities room, assisted bathrooms and a rooftop conservatory. Two guest bedrooms for use by visitors are also being provided.
Resident’s privacy is respected with each fully self-contained flat having its own front door. However, care and support packages will be provided to enable residents to maintain independent living as long as possible.
SCHA General Manager Lloyd Bradshaw comments, “This new development is in a superb location with a full rage of facilities virtually on the doorstep. We have secured the necessary funding from Lloyds Bank and the Homes & Communities Agency to enable the scheme to proceed. Award winning contractors Jessup Build Develop will build the facility for us and we are confident they will produce a top-class building, which will provide a safe and secure environment. We will work closely with Solihull Council during the development period and once the building has been completed, to ensure the rented flats are allocated to those most in need. Hunters Estate Agents will be marketing the shared ownership flats for us.”
Jessup will be using local contractors and suppliers where possible at all stages of the building programme to make sure that revenues remain in the local economy and local companies benefit from this project, which is due for completion in March 2015.
